Most people don’t realize that electromagnetic fields in the home and workplace can affect their mood and health
ALL places of dwelling and work places are affected by electromagnetic fields (EMF) and they have an influence on all individuals whether they like it or not.
EMF surrounds anything that uses electricity and studies have shown that these fields alter energy flow between the individual and the space, thus causing health concerns and influencing peace of mind.
Electrical appliances like televisions and other audio and video equipment should be unplugged when not in use and should not be placed in the bedroom.
Vasthu Sastra says that the space we occupy vibrates energy and our body also does the same. Both these mass energies must be in harmony and we will experience challenges in our physical and emotional wellbeing.
EMF is a physical “field’’ produced by electrically charged objects. For instance, lights, computers, televisions, radios, microwave ovens and other household electrical appliances have lower electromagnetic fields.
The higher frequencies come from UV lights and X-ray machines, to name a few.
Although we cannot avoid EMF, everyone should be aware that the greater the use of electricity and the closer we are to an appliance, the greater the effect on us. I was in Melbourne and Sydney earlier this week to learn how experts are studying the potential health effects of EMF, particularly in the workplace, where people are 10 times more exposed to it than they are at home.
Checks revealed that the potential effects of EMF on human health vary widely, depending on the frequency and intensity of the fields.
So what can one do to reduce the effects of EMF in one’s surroundings? Vasthu recommends that people should tap into natural lighting which has tremendous benefits, rather than be overly dependant on electricity. One good practice is to allow the sun’s rays to enter the house by opening the northern and eastern doors and windows at sunrise.
This process not only provides natural lighting and the benefits of Vitamin D, but also flushes out stale energy and energises the space. Having plants like Tulsi (basil) in the vicinity of the home can help reduce the adverse effects of EMF which can cause stress, irritation, headaches and tiredness.
The Tulsi plant has many health benefits in Ayurveda (Indian science of longevity) and placing it in close proximity promotes goodness and lessens electromagnetic radiation.
Dwellers are urged to use electrical equipment only when it is really necessary and it is highly recommended that these appliances be unplugged when not in use.
This is because plugging a wire into a socket creates electric fields in the air surrounding the appliance. The higher voltage, the stronger field. And the appliance does not have to be turned on for an electric field to exist in the room.
Avoid using electrical appliances like laptops, mobile phones and audio or visual players by the bedside as these appliances can affect sleep. Place them far away from your bed or better still, outside the bedroom.
